A Review of Generators and Power Converters for Multi-MW Wind Energy Conversion Systems

The rated power of wind turbines has consistently enlarged as large installations can reduce energy production costs. Multi-megawatt are frequently used in offshore and onshore facilities, today is possible to find over 15 MW. New developments generators converters for multi-MW needed, the trend toward upscaling dimensions expected continue. Therefore, this paper provides a detailed review commercially available recently proposed turbine converters. Furthermore, comparative analyses indicate advantages disadvantages promising technologies at target.
